Gender Institute end of year celebration and prize giving ceremony

The ANU Gender Institute had a fabulous time celebrating another great year for the Institute! So much skill, hard work and passion has gone into the research, workshops, lectures, dialogues and public outreach our Institute has generated in 2018. We would like to thank all ANU staff and students and our guests beyond the ANU for their enthusiastic participation.

We especially acknowledge the excellent presentations by Vice-Chancellor Brian Schmidt, Sharon Bell, Elanor Huntington and Steve Blackburn, some of which are available below, and the spirited panel that followed on women in science and technology with a special focus on computing and engineering.

Siobhan McDonnell discussed the Navigating the Field inaugural course, initiated by herself and Annie McCarthy, which was funded primarily by the Gender Institute. The course focused on the the challenges of field research, including issues of gender, positionality and experiences of sexual harassment and violence. The course website can be found here

The Gender Institute also awarded the following prizes to five stellar ANU researchers for theses awarded and articles published in 2017:
  • Linda Ma, Best Honours thesis, Labour of love: consumption, exchange and power among employers and foreign domestic workers in Hong Kong, CAP
