Annual Civil Society Dialogue on Women, Peace and Security

Podcasts are now available for this event - linked here

The third Annual Civil Society Dialogue on Women, Peace and Security will place a spotlight on the issues in some conflict affected communities and amplify civil society voices. Civil society organisations will be asked to contribute to a submission process that will further enhance their contributions to the 2015 Annual Civil Society Report Card.

October 2015 is the 15th anniversary of the landmark United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325. Mark the occasion with an in depth discussion on women’s participation in conflict prevention, mitigation, resolution and peace processes.

Country focussed panels on both Myanmar and Solomon Islands will examine progress on this agenda from the perspective of the Australian Government, civil society and a woman involved in peace processes in-country.

We also invite key male leaders from Government, civil society and academia to reflect on what it means to be a male leader on the women, peace and security agenda and discuss opportunities to advance women’s leadership in this space.

Speakers include: Major General Shane Caughey, Deputy Commander Joint Operations; Assistant Commissioner Scott Lee, AFP; Jo Hayter, IWDA; Archie Law, ActionAid Australia; Stav Zotalis, CARE; James Batley, ANU; Sinclair Dinnen, ANU and Virginia Haussegger, Australian National Committee for UN Women & ABC Journalist, among many others.

An important outcome will be the third Civil Society Report Card, informed through small group discussions at the Dialogue and an online submission.
