Women sex-spies: chastity, national dignity, and state legitimacy in China
To be presented by Louise Edwards who is a Professor of Modern China Studies at the University of Hong Kong. Her recent publications include Gender, Politics and Democracy: Women's Suffrage in China (Stanford UP 2008; Celebrity in China (Hong Kong UP 2010, ed. with Elaine Jeffreys) and a series of edited volumes with Mina Roces including Women's Movements in Asia: Feminisms and Transnational Activism (Routledge 2010); The Politics of Dress in Asia and the Americas (Sussex Academic 2007). She is currently working on projects related to the gendered culture of war in China.
