Women’s inclusion in the history of the Chilean public sphere: A contemporary view

Public lecture by Dr Ana María Stuven

One of the most radical changes in terms of participation in the public sphere is that affecting women. From being absent, and secluded in the domestic realm, they have been incorporated into the political and civil society as full members. Although still discriminated against in many areas, recent surveys have demonstrated a new worldview and autonomous positions challenging patriarchal structures.

Ana María Stuven is a professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Director of the History of Political Ideas Program at Universidad Diego Portales. She has a PhD in History from Stanford University; her main areas of research being the history of political ideas and the history of women. She has been a visiting scholar in American and European universities and has published widely in her field.

The seminar will be followed by light food and beverages through the kind support of the Embassy of the Republic of Chile.
