Wives and wanderers in a New Guinea highlands society

The late Marie Olive Reay, for over 30 years an anthropologist at ANU, wrote a work on PNG Highlands women’s lives that would have been the first work in this vein had she published it when she finished it – back in the mid-60s.

Professor Francesca Merlan who found it (in shreds and patches) and edited it into readable shape, describes it as “still amazingly contemporary”.

Wives and Wanderers in a New Guinea Highlands Society will be launched by PNG expert Martha McIntyre.

The work is available online at ANU Press.

RSVP Wednesday 11 March to butlin.archives@anu.edu.au or 6125 2219
