WILPF Centenary Events: Australian Peacewomen Awards and Women’s Power to Stop War Conference

Hosted by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, the Australian Peacewomen Awards will recognise the talents and dedication of women whose activities have promoted peace at the local, national and/or international levels.

The Women's Power to Stop War Conference will discuss the who, what, where, how, why of Women's Power to Stop War, with keynote speakers, panel discussion, a mini debate "Government Diplomacy vs NGO Advocacy – who is the best peace-builder?", and conversations with subject matter experts on WILPF's three program areas, disarmament, human rights and gender, peace and security.

Speaker

Madeleine Rees OBE has been the Secretary General of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom since 2010. She previously worked as a lawyer in discrimination and human rights law, in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights as the gender expert and Head of Office in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Head of the Women’s Rights and Gender Unit for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights. Ms Rees was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2014 for services to human rights, particularly women's rights, and international peace and security.
