The soldier and the pacifist

Floor talk in conjunction with the 'Women's Power to Stop War' exhibition currently at the Canberra Museum and Gallery.

Jan Morice, tells how her grandmother, Mabel Drummond, a central founding member of WILPF from 1915, maintained an affectionate, but difficult relationship with her younger brother, Tom, who joined up and fought at Gallipoli and the Western Front.

Jan knew her grandmother from when she was a child until Mabel died when Jan was 25.  Mabel's diaries and scrapbooks with newspaper cuttings and letters from Vida Goldstein and Adela Pankhurst are in the exhibition.  See photos of Mabel addressing thousands at an Anti-war Rally in Melbourne in 1924.
