Roundtable, reception and launch: opportunities for Australia’s Women, Peace and Security agenda post-2015

While the past twelve months has seen important progress in advancing the United Nations Women, Peace and Security agenda, the ongoing violence committed against women by ISIS and the failure to return the schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram are just two timely reminders that the international community is far from achieving the goals set out in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000).

With representatives from government and civil society, this roundtable and audience discussion will examine the opportunities for Australia to shape and contribute to the global debate on the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda. The speakers will reflect upon recent major reports and events to ask: ‘what can Australia do to make a genuine, lasting and positive impact upon the lives of women and girls affected by armed conflict?’

During this event Dr Alan Ryan (Executive Director of the Australian Civil-Military Centre) will also launch the Third Annual Civil Society Report Card on Australia’s implementation of its National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security. This civil society shadow report is designed to independently review, support and advocate for the Australian Government’s continued commitment to this crucial cross-cutting agenda.

Please join us to participate in this important conversation, launch and reception.
