'Researching Gender, Politics and the Media: Approaches and Methods

Postgraduate students and early career researchers at the ANU are invited to attend this Masterclass on feminist media analysis, which explores approaches and methods for analysing media texts and argues that such analysis is crucial for understanding politics and gendered power relations. Participants will be provided 3 papers in advance and invited to engage in experiential learning exercises designed to illustrate feminist media analysis techniques as well as discussions about gendered mediation of political leadership.

Professor Trimble is a renowned international political scientist and Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of Alberta, Canada. Her research explores women’s legislative representation, media coverage of women politicians and in particular female prime ministers.

Readings will be circulated prior to the workshop.

This event is for ANU HDR students and ECRs. Please register to attend by emailing Barbara at Gender Institute administration.

Prior to this masterclass, Professor Trimble will deliver a public lecture, Body politics: Media, gender and leadership in Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Click here for full lecture abstract and speaker’s bio.
