RECLAIM THE NIGHT 2013: Reclaiming our streets, homes and institutions

What is Reclaim the Night? RTN (or Take Back the Night) is an annual global protest for women—and the men who support them—to demand the fundamental human right to live free from fear and reality of sexual violence.

Who should attend Reclaim the Night? Anyone and everyone who wants to stand against sexual violence against women. RTN provides a safe space for women who have experienced violence to come together to be heard, be angry, grieve or be in awe of each other’s survival and resilience.

What is the role of men at Reclaim the Night? RTN recognises the valuable contribution that men make in championing this cause. Men can show their support by challenging violence supportive attitudes and marching from the back. Marching from the back shows men’s support while providing women with the space to unite and exercise their right to move freely without men’s protection.

Themes for Reclaim the Night: The theme for 2013 is child sexual abuse, to bring attention to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. RTN Canberra 2013 will give voice to those women and men who have been victims of child sexual abuse and there will be the opportunity to post your story or message of support to the Royal Commission.
