Prosecuting conflict-related sexual violence: Reflections from the ICTY

DFAT is delighted to host Michelle Jarvis, Principal Legal Counsel and Deputy Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY), for a roundtable discussion on the prosecution of conflict-related sexual violence at the ICTY.

This discussion coincides with the Australian launch of  Prosecuting Conflict-Related Sexual Violence at the ICTY, edited by Serge Brammertz and Michelle Jarvis (OUP 2016), which  documents the experiences, achievements, challenges, and fundamental insights on prosecuting conflict-related sexual violence crimes at the ICTY over the past two decades, and the important legacy of this experience for the future of international criminal justice.

Michelle Jarvis is an Australian lawyer with extensive international experience covering litigation, rule of law, women’s access to justice and senior management roles. She has worked at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) for the past sixteen years and is presently the Deputy to the Prosecutor with oversight of legal issues across the Office of the Prosecutor for the ICTY and the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals.

Hosted by the ANU College of Law with the Centre for Military & Security Law and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
