PARSA Women's week

Women's Week is a time to celebrate women at ANU and in our community! PARSA has organised and collaborated with groups across ANU to deliver a variety of events that aim to support, empower and celebrate women. We encourage everyone to participate in these events, keeping in mind that a few events will be for women only.

Panel discussion

The signature event for the week is the International Women’s Day Panel Discussion & Lunch which will be discussing what universities can do to advance gender equality. Women from across the university will discuss what universities can do to better engage and promote gender equality. 

Speakers include: Paula Newitt, Dean of Students, Anne Martin, Director - Tjabal Indigenous Higher Education Centre, Kiara Bruggeman, PhD candidate in Biomaterial Engineering and 2015 3MT Winner, Kim Rubenstein, Professor - ANU College of Law and Convenor of the ANU Gender Institute. The event will be facilitated by Yen Eriksen, Masters of Public Administration Candidate and 2015 Young People's Human Rights Medal winner. This event is hosted by the PARSA Women's Office and ANU Women's Department. Please register online for catering purposes.

Film night - The Help

Women's Week celebrations continue with a night at the movies! There will be a screening of The Help on Wednesday, 9 March from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM in the Coombs Lecture Theatre - Fellows Road, Acton, ACT. The Help is based on the novel of the same name by Kathryn Stockett and features a brillant ensemble cast of women. Set in the early 1960's, during the American Civil Rights era, the movie explores with both drama and humour, the relationship between women and their families during this period of history. Places are limited so please register, everyone welcome!

Canberra support services - Market Day

Women's organisations from across Canberra will be at Union Court on Thursday March 10, noon- 2pm, to answer questions about services in the local area.

Feminism 101

Ever wondered what feminism is, or interested in finding out more? Come along to our introductory session on Friday, 11 March 2016 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM where we share with you the basic theories and concepts to get you up to speed on all things feminist! The session will be held in the Hayden Allen Tank and PARSA will be providing delicious vegan cupcakes as a lecture snack, so please register if you would like to attend!

She's a Professional exhibition

She's a Professional exhibition showcases a variety of work by women from the ANU School of Art. Each artist speaks to a different discourse in the visual arts and presents a unique view on the embodied experience of women and celebrates the professional accomplishments of women at various stages in their careers. The exhibition is free at the ANU Post Graduate Student Space, Union Court until March 25.

Let her rip!

The week will wrap up with Let her rip!, an all-female line-up featuring some of Australia’s best established and emerging musicians! Bertie Blackman, Jess Kent and Georgi Kay will be taking to the stage to deliver powerful, female-fuelled performances. This is an 18+ event.
