One Billion Rising forum

The ANU Gender Institute in collaboration with the Human Resources Division Diversity and Workforce Planning Unit are holding a panel discussion to support this laudable initiative of raising awareness around violence against women and girls. The panel and audience will discuss the social issues that result in violence against women and solutions to the ongoing and unacceptable statistic that one in three women will be raped or beaten in their lifetime.

Facilitated by Julie McKay, Executive Director of the Australian National Committee for UN Women Australia and Young Australian of The Year, the following panellists will discuss why violence against women continues to be a key social issue in Australia today and how the support services, policy and legislative framework can address these ongoing issues:

Mr Greg Aldridge, Director, Canberra Men’s Centre and White Ribbon Ambassador

Ms Melanie Poole, Parliamentary Advocacy Coordinator, CARE Australia

Dr Susan Harris Rimmer, Director of Studies: School of Regulation, Justice and Diplomacy College of Asia and the Pacific, ANU

Ms Chrystina Stanford, Executive Officer, Canberra Rape Crisis Centre
