CURRENT PROJECT -  concluding April 2026

About

Gender ideology, a set of attitudes, beliefs, norms, and expectations surrounding gender roles and identities, impacts a multitude of social outcomes, for instance
reproductive preferences and behaviors. However, available measures of gender ideology are outdated and ill-suited to capture rapidly evolving change in ideas about
gender.

This interdisciplinary project brings together sociologists, psychologists, survey data specialists as well as demographers to advance conceptualizations and measurements of gender ideology, and to study their link with changing fertility regimes.

Aims

This project aims to
  1. develop a novel typology of gender ideology,
  2. assess generational differences in gender ideologies across high income countries, and
  3. examine how changing gender ideologies are linked to childbearing ideals in Australia.

Using cutting edge data and methods, it will integrate two already existing transdisciplinary collaborations and funding streams.
