The Music of Dissent – Songs of Struggle and Solidarity

Feminist themes and issues are as relevant in 2012 as ever, and no exploration of Australian activism would be complete without a tribute to the feminist movement. Graeme Adler and Margaret O'Connor will be reading excerpts of a Commonwealth of Australia Minute from March 1963 from the National Archives of Australia collection, which discusses in very chauvinistic terms the pros and cons of recruiting female Trade Commissioners. The audience will then be treated to a suffragette marching song as well as a more recent feminist anthem.
