Movie night: private screening of the film Hidden Figures

The launch of John Glenn into orbit, and his safe return, might not have succeeded but for the work of a team of NASA mathematicians including Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, and Katherine Johnson. Their story is the basis of the highly acclaimed film, Hidden Figures. You can see a trailer for the film here.

Soroptimist International is hosting a special screening of Hidden Figures to raise funds for a YWCA Great Ydeas grant, fostering entrepreneurship, innovation and leadership in the ACT. Your ticket includes entry and popcorn, and the opportunity to hear guest speaker Associate Professor Céline d'Orgeville, talk about the challenges women face pursuing professions in Astronomy in the twenty-first century.

The film starts at 6:30, but arrive at Palace Electric at 6:00pm so that you have time to mingle and chat and to hear our guest speaker.

For those of you who don’t know us already: Soroptimist International (SI) is one of the oldest and largest women’s organisations in the world, with over 80,000 members in around 3,000 clubs in 130 countries. SI ACT & Monaro, a group of local women working voluntarily to improve the lives of girls and women through programs leading to social and economic empowerment. Tickets can be purchased here.
