The Hunting Ground: film screening and panel discussion

The event will include a screening of the US Documentary, The Hunting Ground, and will be followed by a panel discussion (strong trigger warning, see below).

This screening and panel discussion is presented by the ANU Women's Department, ANUSA, PARSA and the Women's Centre for Health Matters. Please register for this event online.

The Hunting Ground is a US Feature Documentary that follows the journey of a number of women who have been sexually assaulted on US University Campuses. The documentary explores the different ways in which their experiences were received by their campuses and the failure of campuses to respond appropriately.

The screening will begin with a few words from ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt AC who is committed to ensuring no ANU student feels threatened, bullied or unsafe on campus.

After the screening there will be a 10-minute break followed by a panel discussion.

The panel discussion will be facilitated by Melanie Greenhalgh from the Women's Centre for Health Matters and panellists include Professor Richard Baker (ANU Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Experience) Penny Pestano (Counsellor and Crisis Advocate worker in the Canberra Rape Crisis Center) and Linnea Burdon Smith (ANUSA Women's Officer for 2016).

Strong Trigger Warning: This event contains detailed accounts of sexual assault and suicide. Due to the confronting nature of the film, we recommend watching the documentary trailer beforehand. If you do not want to view the film you are more than welcome to attend the panel discussion only which begins at 8.15pm. You will be able to leave the room at any time throughout the screening if you need to. A Safe Space will be set in Theatre 4, Manning Clark Centre outside the main theatre and counsellors will be available.
