Half the Sky - film screening & panel discussion‏

The Australian Human Rights Centre will mark the UN designated International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (25 November) and the sixteen day campaign of activism against gender violence, which ends on Human Rights Day (10th December) by showing a special screening of Half the Sky:Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide.

Filmed in 10 countries, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide follows Pulitzer prize-winners, New York Times journalists Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, and celebrity activists, including America Ferrera, Diane Lane, Eva Mendes, and Olivia Wilde on a journey to tell the stories of inspiring, courageous individuals. Across the globe oppression is being confronted and real meaningful solutions are being fashioned through health care, education, and economic empowerment for women and girls. The linked problems of sex trafficking and forced prostitution, gender-based violence, and maternal mortality present extraordinary opportunities to make a change.
