Gayby Bayby: special screening

Special screening and Q&A with director and producer Maya Newell and Charlotte Mars

GAYBY BABY is a portrait of four kids – Gus, Ebony, Matt and Graham – whose parents all happen to be gay. As they each wrestle with the challenges of oncoming adolescence, the outside world wrestles with the issue of marriage equality, and whether or not kids like them are at risk.

This is a feature documentary that speaks to the marriage equality debate from a child’s-eye view. It’s a funny, thoughtful and moving piece of cinema that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival earlier this year, sold out all sessions at the Sydney and Melbourne Film Festivals, and has been nominated for an AACTA Award for Best Australian Feature Documentary. And with the events around Marriage Equality happening in Parliament and in the media at the moment, it could not be more timely.
