Free film screening: Bombshell – the Hedy Lamarr story

Join the ANU Film Group and the SAGE Athena SWAN project at ANU for a free screening of the critically acclaimed film Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story.

This documentary tells the life story of Hedy Lamarr, a Hollywood actress with a passion and gift for inventing. Fuelled by a desire to contribute to the Allied war effort, in the early 1940’s Lamarr pioneered a wireless form of communication that went on to revolutionise weapons systems and mobile communication technology.  The film shows that, despite her significant contributions to science and technology, she received very little recognition for her work and struggled to be taken seriously as an inventor.

The film will give viewers much food for thought, as ANU continues its work to improve gender equity through the SAGE Athena SWAN program.
