Defining moments: Pride and prejudice panel

Exploring the history of LGBTQIA+ politics in Australia

In 2018 we mark the 40th anniversary of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. It has been a long struggle towards equality and inclusion but having achieved marriage equality, have we reached the end of the rainbow? Or is the fight for LGBTQIA+ rights just getting started?

Join ABC RN Big Ideas presenter Cathy Van Extel and a distinguished and diverse panel to discuss the history of the gay and lesbian liberation movement in Australia. They’ll look at the often untold contributions of people across the community – and queer politics today.

Our guest panel is:

  • the Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG, former Justice of the High Court of Australia
  • Robyn Laverack, 78er and Mardi Gras pioneer
  • Jordan Raskopoulos, comedian and writer
  • Associate Professor Shirleene Robinson, Department of Modern History, Macquarie University.

Tickets: $15 adult | $10 concession | $7.50 Friends
