CSW65 in Australia: Women in Public Life - Equal Participation in Decision Making

Are you energised by the Women’s March earlier this week?  Do you want to make sure that gender equality in Australia continues to be a central public policy issue?  Then next week you can continue to meet with individuals (either online or in person) committed to discussing and acting on these issues in the international and domestic forums!

Following on from a successful event in 2020, the 50/50 By 2030 Foundation, University of Canberra, with the support of the ANU Gender Institute and the Equality Rights Alliance, is excited to be convening a 2021 Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Australia conference during the second week of this year’s CSW.

The event opens on 22 March 2021 with a stand-alone, on-line training program for activists and advocates on how to navigate global gender equality processes such as the Commission on the Status of Women, how to use them to advance gender equality priorities in Australia, and how to use international agreements for advocacy in Australia.

This training will be followed by a two-day conference (23-24 March 2021 – online and or in person) with speakers and panel sessions focusing on violence as a barrier to leadership, as well as the empowerment of women in the international arena.  Sessions include:

  • Cultural change in the workplace
  • Alternative ways of mobilising, including through culture and entrepreneurship
  • Different forms of violence, including reproductive coercion and gendered cyberhate
  • The gendered impact of Covid-19
  • Ways of improving young women’s international participation
  • Feminist foreign policy
  • Intersectionality

Other organisations presenting across the two days include Walkfree, the YWCA, Gender Equity Victoria, Marie Stopes, Good Shepherd, National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Alliance, the Diversity Council of Australia, IWDA, Chief Executive Women, the Grattan Institute, Our Watch, Save the Children, AWAVA, National Rural Women’s Coalition, Harmony Alliance, Women with Disabilities Australia, WOW Australia, National Older Women’s Network and the Rural Women’s Network.
