Australia’s response to violence against women: progress and pitfalls

Australia’s response to violence against women has been escalating during the 2000s. We have a truly national response, with a National Action Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children, recent findings from the Victorian Royal Commission and the Not Now Not Ever Bryce Report from Queensland. We had Rosie Batty as Australian of the Year. With this ascending activity are we making effective progress to stop Violence Against Women across our country?

This talk stems from a partnership between WILPF and the ANU Gender Institute as part of the 16 Days of Activism (25 Nov-10 Dec).

Libby Lloyd AM was Chair of the National Council to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children (2008-9) (which produced the blue-print for the NAP), also the Chair of The Violence against Women Advisory Group (2009-2011) and is a co-founder of the White Ribbon Campaign.
