Soroptimist International ACT and Monaro Grant – A Better World for Women

Soroptimist International is a politically independent global volunteer organization of around 80,000 women in 130 countries and territories working at a local, national and international level to educate empower and enable women and girls.  We work across the Americas, Europe, Great Britain & Ireland, and the South West Pacific
Members are local women professionals who volunteer their time and skills to improve the lives of other women and girls through programs of social and economic empowerment.  
SI ACT and Monaro is launching and sponsoring a Grant.  The SI ACT and Monaro Strategic Plan supports the Soroptimist International Program Goals through the development of this Grant by seeking to achieve the following objectives:
SI GOAL 1 – SI will improve the lives and status of women and girls through education, empowerment or enabling opportunities.   
SI GOAL 2 - SI will be a global voice for raising awareness of domestic violence, increasing access to education and leadership for women and girls.

Applications for Funding

Grant applications are sought for funding the development and implementation of an Australian based project or activity that meets one or both of the above SI Goals.

Electronic copies of the application forms and the Guidelines are available on request from  The completed form must be no more than 4 single sided pages in length and font size at least 11 point.

Who can Apply?

Students enrolled in an Australian University or Institute of Technology. Where a group is applying a lead applicant should be identified.

When are Applications Due?

The closing date and time for the funding round, and the due date of the application form, is 13 May 2018 at 5pm EST.  The grant recipient will be informed of the outcome on the 28th May.  Address for the Application Form is

Assessment Criteria

Applications will be assessed by a panel and should describe the type of project or activity for which funding is sought.  Proposals for research or educational activity will be assessed against the following criteria:

  1. Alignment with either one or both of the Soroptimist’s International goals.
  2. Relevance  to women and girls. 
  3. The outcomes to be achieved and how they will be measured.
  4. A justified budget
  5. Evidence of good planning i.e. realistic timeframe, effective communication strategy, project deliverables.
  6. Timeline identifying the evaluation of outcomes and finance acquittal report submission.
  7. Information about where other funding is sought or already obtained.
  8. Endorsement of the application by the applicant’s Course Co-ordinator or relevant Supervisor.
