Parents and carers

ANU has a number of policies and initiatives to support individuals as parents or as carers for other family members.

Policies:

  • Work, study, and family responsibility policy details the considerations that must be made for students and staff with family responsibilities

  • Parental and grandparent leave policy describes the leave available to new parents and grandparents

  • Breastfeeding policy covers the resources available to staff who are breastfeeding while studying or working on campus

  • Pregnancy in the workplace guidelines

  • Children on Campus policy covers rules and responsibilities relating to bringing children on campus and to your workplace

  • Career re-entry assistance is available to staff after parental or adoption leave (see point 12) 

Initiatives:

  • ANU Family Friendly Committee has put together a Parenting Spaces booklet, a map of ANU parenting spaces, a checklist for breastfeeding mothers and a checklist for supervisors to support breastfeeding mothers on campus. 

  • ANU Carer program provides travel support for parents and others with family care responsibilities

  • Parental support program provides practical support and services that make meeting family and work commitments a little easier

  • ANU School Holiday Program

  • ANU Parenting Rooms and Childcare

  • The ANU Relocation allowance policy also includes spouse and dependents.
