Staff equity at ANU

ANU has a range of policies and resources that aim to ensure gender equality in the university workplace.

  • ANU has an equal opportunity employment policy.

  • Code of conduct policy guides staff members to identify and resolve issues of ethical conduct that may arise in their employment

  • ANU policies allow for an ‘Identified position’ for minority groups (including women) engaged in areas of the University where they are under-represented as part of special measures to meet the targets set out in the ANU strategic plan

  • Gender diversity on selection committees: currently, ANU policy requires that at least one person of each gender be included in every committee

  • Gender inclusive language and discrimination guidelines enable the ANU to better support all students, staff and associates through use of gender inclusive practices

  • ANU Human Resources has provided a useful factsheet about for information on what kind of language is exclusionary and the definitions of different gender identities

  • Reports and statistics on Gender Equity at ANU can be found here

We encourage staff and students to be aware of their rights. The Sex Discrimination Act makes it against the law for anyone to be discriminated on the basis of sex.

The Workplace Gender Equality Agency is also an excellent source of information and resources relating to gender equity.
