Request for priority setting submissions (Status of Women (CSW61)


The Office for Women would like to invite all interested individuals, non-government and civil society organisations to provide input into the Australian Government priorities for the 61st Session on the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61), via a written submission process.

The purpose of these submissions is to inform the Australian Government’s position during negotiations of the CSW61 Agreed Conclusions and other related resolutions.

The priority theme for CSW61 is Women’s economic empowerment in the changing world of work, and the review theme is Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls. CSW61 will also introduce the focus area: Empowerment of Indigenous women.

Broadly speaking, the Australian Government’s priorities for gender equality include:

-              The prevention of violence against women and their children;

-              Increasing women’s economic security, particularly increasing women’s workforce participation; and

-              Increasing leadership opportunities for women in all areas of Australian society.

The Australian Government delegation will also continue to assess the gender goals and targets under the Sustainable Development Goals, alongside the Beijing Declaration and Platform of Action.
