Men of war, men of peace: changing masculinities in Vanuatu

In the recent special double issue of the Asia Pacific Journal of Anthropology Gender Institute Convenor Professor Margaret Jolly has published an article titled 'Men of War, Men of Peace: Changing Masculinities in Vanuatu', which draws on oral histories to explores different forms of masculinity. Jolly argues that ‘contrary to early European impressions, it was not so much “men of war” as “men of peace” who embodied hegemonic masculinity in the diverse Indigenous cultures of north Vanuatu’ (p. 308) The special double issue titled 'Emergent Masculinities in the Pacific' can be found here.
