MA in Women's studies and entrepreneurship launched at Avinashilingam University

The UGC-sponsored Women’s Studies Centre of Avinashilingam Deemed University for Women, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu; is starting an innovative full-time course: MA in Women's Studies and Entrepreneurship from 1 August 2016

It is an interdisciplinary and unique post-graduate programme for women students without age and income barrier. The course is planned as timely to recognize the reality of changing Indian society with shrinking job market and growing self-employment. It is an on-demand PG course to help women students to become entrepreneurs soon after completion of Masters Degree. Since, time has changed, competition is more, job and economic securities are less; qualifying oneself to be only a job-seeker is not enough, rather one can be a job-giver to those who are job-seekers. The course is therefore framed to maximize the competitive advantage of a post-graduate degree especially for Indian women students. It is an advanced course to Support to Training and Employment Programme for Women (STEP), so that young Indian women receive appropriate professional qualification for socio-economic empowerment.

The course has an equal mix of theoretical knowledge on Women’s Studies and practical experience on Entrepreneurship (Fieldwork, Industrial Visit and Summer & Winter Internship; Entrepreneurial Lab and Business Incubator). Post-completion of Masters degree, women students can translate the gained knowledge, skills and training to their own personal interests and immediate benefits – launching of ‘entrepreneurial ventures’ under the support of Central Government’s Schemes for Make in India and Startup India Stand Up India. Students can also choose to become employed in Governmental Departments, Non-Governmental Organizations and International Agencies working for women, family and children. Generous mentoring and hand-holding will be offered to all students. Industry Scholarships are available to deserving women students under merit-cum-means.
