Gender in modern East Asia: new book launched

Last month, a new book by Barbara Molony, Janet Theiss and Hyaeweol Choi, titled Gender in modern East Asia: an integrated history was launched at an event held at the Menzies Library, ANU. Professor Louise Edwards and Professor Tessa Morris-Suzuki spoke at the event, emphasising the important themes and topics the book covers, including Confucianism, writing and language, the role of the state in gender construction, nationalism, sexuality and prostitution, New Women and Modern Girls, feminisms, “comfort” women, and imperialism.
