On 16th May 2016 Canadian Writer and Actress Carmen Aguirre spoke at the ANU about her remarkable life. Born in Chile, Carmen and her family settled in Canada following the 1973 Pinochet coup, but later returned to South America and joined the underground movement opposing the regime. Today Carmen is a Vancouver-based multi-award winning theatre artist, actor, director, and author.
The event was chaired by Monique Rooney from the ANU School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics, and presented by the ANU Gender Institute and the ANU School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics (Reading Across Borders series) and The High Commission of Canada.
