As many of you would be aware, the Workplace Gender Equality Act 2012 (WGE Act) received Royal Assent in December 2012, and its implementation is under way.
The WGE Act specifies five gender equality indicators (GEIs) under which relevant employers will now be required to report on annually. Work is currently underway to develop the specific reporting matters under each GEI. The reporting matters will be developed in close consultation with key stakeholders including industry, business, employee organisations, higher education institutions, and other stakeholders with a special knowledge or interest in gender equality in the workplace.
We are pleased to inform you the Minister for Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Minister for Disability Reform, and the Acting Minister for the Status of Women, the Hon Jenny Macklin MP, formally launched the consultation process on 9 January 2013. Read the media release.
An issues brief, canvassing the underlying intention of the gender equality indicators, and putting forward a range of broad options for reporting matters is available at on the Department website or can be obtained by contacting the Office for Women on 02 6146 1861 or by email. Written comments are invited by 29 January 2013.
